Practice what you preach...right? This is harder than it sounds! Last year, after the book promotion activities died down and I began to search for a business to buy, good leads and deals were hard to find, and after failing to acquire a business I'd tried to buy, I did what I'd told readers to avoid unless they'd explored all their options: START A BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH! So, the reason for the lack of blog posts in more than a year is self-explanatory, I hope you can understand. I am now almost through my first full year as the owner of a pottery importing business! I have imported the coolest moss-covered terra cotta pots, biodegradable flower pots, and artisan carved root bowls, and they are now appearing in garden centers and wholesale flower markets across the Northeast. And of this experience, I can report that: YES, it is lonely, YES, it is intense, NO, I cannot begin to pay myself a salary, YES, even I the expert author underestimated the capital that I would need, YES, I am very glad I did it, YES, I am glad that grueling year one is almost over, and YES, the most important thing to do is keep plugging away, every day. The business is growing and attracting great attention, and I have at least put my money where my mouth (and pen) is.
